What is

Activated Carbon

Activated Carbon is purified, powdered Carbon treated physically or chemically to generate micro-fissures that vastly increase its surface area for adsorption & chemical reactions. Purified carbon is activated by a carefully controlled oxidation process to develop a porous carbon structure….an imperfect structure that results in a high degree of porosity over a broad range of pore sizes, from visible cracks and crevices to gaps and voids of molecular dimensions. The specified structure of carbon gives it a very large surface area which allows the carbon to adsorb a wide range of compounds. Produced from carbonaceous source materials – coconuts, nutshells, coal, peat & wood – Activated carbon has the highest volume of adsorbing porosity of any material available to mankind. Activated Carbon has garnered global importance due to its applications infiltration & purification process Activated carbon is an invaluable tool in environmental sustainability & recovery applications.

    We Are Indcarb

We have been transforming the ideas and visions into reality

    Water & Waste Water treatment

Activated carbon is an efficient and cost-effective solution for removing a wide range of contaminants from industrial and municipal wastewater, contaminated ground and groundwater. Indcarb offers the best solution for a variety of applications related to water treatment including drinking water, industrial and process water treatment. Our range of water treatment product range includes a variety of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC), Impregnated and Acid washed carbons.

    Potable Water Treatment

Activated Carbon is mainly used for chlorine and organics removal in drinking water treatment applications. Removal of organics from chlorinated potable water is essential to prevent formation of trihalomethanes (THMs). Activated Carbon is used in point-of-entry (POE) and point-of-use (POU) filters to remove taste, odour and colour in drinking water. Being microporous in internal structure, coconut shell carbon is well suited for organic chemical adsorption, including volatile organic chemicals while having higher chlorine reduction capabilities. Many organic compounds, such as chlorinated and non-chlorinated solvents, trihalomethanes, pesticides and VOC are adsorbed into the inner pores. Indcarb WT grade products are used in point-of-use (POU) and point-of-entry (POE) drinking water filtration devices to improve the quality of drinking water by removing unwanted compounds such as arsenic, chlorine, chlorinated by-products such as THM's, chloramines, lead and volatile organic compounds (VOC's). Our products provide the optimal pore structure to allow contaminants the maximum exposure to adsorption sites in the carbon lattice. Water filters, filter cartridges and carbon blocks are one of the most widely and effectively used water filtration technologies. Indcarb utilizes state of the art manufacturing techniques and ultramodern equipment and testing facilities to produce a range of carbon products with the ideal balance of both adsorption and pore structure, low ash and impurities, high mechanical strength and consistent particle size distribution. Indcarb WT grade of carbon products comply with all regulations and NSF, Prop 65 certification standards. We also offer a specialized range of products including silver impregnated carbon for bacteriostatic applications and catalytic carbons for chloramine, iron, and hydrogen sulphide removal.

    Process & Waste Water treatment

Whether it is the treatment of wastewater, effluent or contaminated ground water, Indcarb activated carbon is the right choice for any kind of purification processes. Due to the high internal surface area and specific adsorption capacities, our carbon can absorb large quantities of dissolved organics from wastewater. Granular carbon filtration is used for removing dissolved, non-biodegradable organics using fixed filter beds. Powder carbons are used by mixing it with the sludge for better process stability and improve settling characteristics of the sludge. Our WT grade granular and powder carbon products for this application are geared for effective removal of all formulaic organic contaminants in industrial, municipal and household waste water contributing to toxicity, high BOD, COD and TOC values, development of undesired colour and odour, and inhibiting biological treatment systems. The excellent adsorption properties of our products together with the ideal distribution of micro and meso pores allows the adsorption of a multitude of contaminants of large, medium and small molecular sizes.

    Cigarette Filters

Cigarette smoke contains a number of compounds identified as irritants and possibly toxic chemicals to humans. In order to reduce the intake of toxic gases while smoking cigarettes, filters made up of cellulose acetate is used worldwide. Cigarette filters incorporated with activated carbon are well known for their selective reduction of many vapour phase smoke toxicants. Coconut shell activated carbon provides superior performance in terms of smoke chemistry removal efficiency and handling characteristics. Indcarb CF grade activated carbon is an excellent choice as it provides superior performance in terms of removal of irritation causing components like acetaldehyde & acrolein and modifies the perceived taste and flavor of cigarettes. The tailormade particle size distributions of these products ensures high kinetics, whilst the low dust and fine particle content prevents the contamination and discoloration of filters, and prevents contaminant leakages. Our activated carbons products greatly increase the retention of a wide range of vapor phase, semi volatile as well as low molecular weight contaminants in cigarette smoke including aldehydes, cyanides, ketones, hydrocarbons and pyridine among many others.

    Oil & Gas

Indcarb offers industry-leading activated carbon products for a wide range of oil and gas industry. Activated Carbon is used for the recovery of economically valuable products like gasoline vapours, benzene and solvents at petroleum refineries. Activated Carbon is the best adsorbent for removal of hydrogen sulphide gas (H2S) during oil refining. Water used, as condensate boiler feed in refineries require very high purification standards and our O&G grade of treated activated carbons successfully remove these various contaminants, de-oiling the condensate and purifying the water flow, thus effectively protecting the ion exchange resins and other sensitive equipment from damage and deterioration. Silica which is a common fouling agent in regular activated carbon products damage ion exchange resins, boiler tubes and turbine blades in refineries. Indcarb O&G grade of carbon products for boiler feed water treatment are designed to have the lowest silica leach and nil ash level in the industry resulting in significant improvement of machinery lifetime and reduction of maintenance costs.

    Other Applications

    Chloramine removal

Many water utilities across the U.S. are transitioning to chloramine for disinfection as an alternative to chlorine. This change is in response to stricter U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations on disinfection byproducts, which are created when chlorine reacts with organics in water. Chloramine, a combination of chlorine and ammonia, is more stable and does not create DPBs. Removing chloramine at the point of use, is difficult than removing chlorine and standard granular activated carbon or carbon block products have limited capacity for chloramine reduction. Indcarb offers a wide range of catalytic grade activated carbon products for this critical application.

    Solvent Recovery

In many industries like printing industry, dry cleaning industry and paint industry many types of solvents are vaporized in the course of production process. Recovery of these solvents from the exhaust air is a good practice in order to reduce cost and atmospheric pollution. In this process the activated carbon adsorbs the solvent from the air and subsequently desorbs by hot steam or inert gas. The condensate is then treated to recover the solvent for reuse. The efficiency of solvent recovery depends on the pore structure of the activated carbon. Indcarb offers a range of granular and extruded activated carbons to meet the requirements of the solvent recovery plant. The key features of these products include a range of activity levels for specific solvents at various concentrations, good desorption characteristics, excellent hardness to resist mechanical attrition and a wide range of particle sizes.
